Behind the Wedding Day: Cakes with Attitude

19 Nov

Greeting brides and grooms-to-be

We all know that one of the most exciting and yummiest day of the wedding planning process is your cake testing day! Not only do you have to decide on your favourite combo or cake and icing but in this day in age, you have to decide if you want cake pops, cupcakes or an beautifully designed wedding cake…ahhh such decisions;) And speaking of design; this season is filled with wedding cakes that simply look like works of art!

One tip to keep in mind when booking your wedding cake company is to choose a cake vendor that is close in proximity to your wedding reception venue. That way you can avoid any accidents en route, ensure the cake doesn’t spend a ton of time in the heat and to avoid extra travel costs. One local wedding cake pro is Eva from Cakes with Attitude.

Cakes With Attitude started out of a desire by its owner, Eva Frickleton, to make something special for her daughter Aneshka’s birthday while they were still living in Scotland. Eva, who’s from the Czech Republic, has switched careers from architecture and, instead of designing houses, is now designing cakes. Under the tutelage of Paul Bradford, royalty and celebrity cake designer, a special talent was discovered, developed and has now been transported across the Atlantic to Ontario.

At Cakes With Attitude we specialize in edible works of art. If you are in search of the perfect wedding cake, favours, novelty cake, birthday cake, cupcakes or any other special occasion cake, Cakes With Attitude will transform your idea into a cake that is incredible to look at with an amazing taste. We are always open to new ideas and inspiration. If you have something in mind please get in touch and we will do all we can to create your perfect cake or cupcakes. Everything is tailored to your occasion, whether simple and elegant or wild and whimsical, and made to order just for you.

A Bride’s Vision

I saw these awesome ideas on the net, and at my friend’s wedding, they had this ceiling draping with lights.  The head table and cake table were all lit up with beautiful floating fabric. Then they had added their signature colour it was like a grape purple to the décor and these gorgeous diamond brooches.  The Backdrop was all lit up and had coloured fabric and crystals to match, it was so pretty.  They had chair covers and the bows were the same colour as the napkins.  She had so many beautiful details that’s  what I want only in royal blue.

I love doing that sort of thing, it’s so much fun.  I am really crafty.  I’ll just buy all the things, (I know some great dollar stores) then, I’ll just get the wedding party, family and friends, go into the hall the day before and show them how I want it and let them go to it.  I’ll get the wedding party and our parents to take it all down after the wedding, they won’t mind.

A Bride’s Reality;

How come I can’t find the things I need?  Wow! I never thought it would cost this much.  I didn’t realize I needed so much material and things to do all this.  Oh! I have to remember to buy extension cords, I hope the wedding party understands the way I want it decorated! Some of them are not very creative.  I’m sure they can get the day off from work that Friday.  I wonder how I attached that ceiling thing? Maybe someone will go up the ladder, it’s pretty high.   I hope everyone is not too tired or drunk to take it all down after the wedding.  I wonder what I’ll do with all of it after the wedding?

WHAT!!!!!  We can’t get into the hall on Friday, they have another function  What am I going to do?  We will all be getting our hair done and the photographer is coming at 11:00 am – OMG – what did I get myself into – what was I thinking, this is too much stress!!!!!!!

Solution -= Hire a professional Designer/Decorator

A good decorator will respond to your call quickly and set up a meeting at their place of business or possibly your venue if the decorator has never worked there before.

The Decorator will consult with you to determine your vision for your perfect day.  She or he will offer options to customize your decorating to match your personal style and taste as well as helpful tips on getting the best bang for your bucks.

You should expect to see a portfolio of the decorating done for other clients and a list of references that you can contact.  A good designer will do a site inspection to determine what will work and not work and take necessary measurements.  Be sure to give the designer a contact name from your venue so they can obtain answers to questions such as time to decorate, tear down times, and review any other details, like safety restrictions such as open flame.

Be sure to get a proper contract itemizing each item and the price, outlining the payment schedule and cancellation policy.  Remember!!!! This contract protects YOU.

A great decorator returns phone calls and e-mails promptly during the planning process for your questions or concerns and is respectful  of your time, arrives on time prepared with all items, equipment, and experienced and friendly staff required for completing the set-up.  The decorator uses their time efficiently and if time restraints are a factor, will bring additional staff to assist the designer in completing your vision.  The designer should have your décor completed long before the guests arrive.  A thoughtful  decorator takes pictures of the décor before any guests arrive to share later with you.

No preparation, removal work should be seen by the Bride and Groom (unless they choose to) or their guests.  The decorator should provide their cell # just in case during set-up and wedding day times.

The only thing a Bride and Groom are responsible for is to walk into a beautifully dressed reception hall and gasp with delight when they see their vision become a reality.

Finally, when your beautiful celebration of love comes to an end, you, your groom, the wedding party, family  and guests can leave with just the memory of a wonderful day.  The decorating team will arrive to remove it all, along with the memory of being a part of your special day.

“Brides for Food Banks” Food Drive-This Weekend!

27 Sep
7th Annual “Brides for Food Banks”
A Food Drive in Support of Hamilton Food Share
at the 15th Annual Hamilton-Halton Fall Wedding Show 2012
September 29 & 30, 2012-Careport Expo Centre

To get local couple’s wedding planning started on a truly altruistic track, the Hamilton-Halton Fall Wedding Show 2012 is running the 7th Annual Wedding Show food drive (Brides for Banks) in support of Hamilton Food Share. This year, we hope to raise over 2,000 canned goods for the families and children in the Hamilton area. Food banks in our city are dangerously low on supplies, and this year, there are more members of our community than ever that are in need of Hamilton Food Share’s supplies and services.
So we ask everyone attending this year’s show, to raid their pantries or head over to their local grocer and bring as many non-perishable food donations as they can to the Wedding Show at The Careport Expo Centre, Hamilton on September 29 & 30, 2012.  12noon-5pm each day.  Even if they can’t stay for the show, we still welcome any donations at the door!
WHY? We encourage brides and grooms to incorporate the causes and charities that they are passionate about or would like to become passionate about in their wedding planning because it is a simple way to make their wedding a rewarding, positive experience that truly represents who they are as a couple.  It also allows their wedding to leave a memorable impact on their community and world…not just pretty pic in their photo album!

Hamilton Spring Wedding Show Recap!

15 Jan

As you may already know, we at the Hamilton Spring Wedding Show were collecting food donations for Hamilton Food Share! While we may have not reached out ultimate goal we were able to a sufficient amount of non perishable items to help refill up Hamilton Food Shares shelves after the bit hit of the Holiday season.
We must send out HUGE thanks to all of those wonderful brides, bridesmaids, grooms, groomsmen, and all the parents that attended the show and help support our community!!!

So now that the big Hamilton Halton Spring Wedding Show is over we are now moving on to the Niagara Spring Wedding Show! So what are we doing at the Niagara Wedding Show to make a difference and help encourage our brides-to-be…to be more socially conscious??

Well on January 12th, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, followed by many aftershock waves hit the West coast of Haiti; 3 million people have been affected with over 200,000 people unfortunately left homeless. We here at Beau Monde Productions (producers of the Hamilton/Niagara Spring & Fall Wedding Shows) are matching dollar for dollar with every donation brought in to help support the Haiti Earthquake relief fund.
For more information on this cause please check out http://www.redcross.ca/article.asp?id=33898&tid=001 for more information and don’t forget to bring a donation to the Niagara Spring Wedding Show.

Brides for Banks….Food Banks that is

22 Dec

Top Reasons Why Brides-to-be should donate to their local Food Drives

  • You are busy planning your wedding…but you are also planning the rest of your life.  Many times you have already decided which city you are going to start your lives as a married couple.  Whether that city is just a temporary resting place or it is the place you plan to build your future; why not make it a little bit happier, healthier and more prosperous while you are there?  In Hamilton, there are currently 19,500 people accessing food banks every month, 8,300 being children.  Donating a few canned goods goes a long way in making sure that Hamilton is a wonderful city to live, work and raise a child for all residents.  For those that think Hamilton is a temporary residence, who knows!  You may help build a city that you never want to leave!
  • Most couples get engaged over Christmas and New Years.  Why not start off the New Year and your new journey with your husband-to-be by donating canned goods to your local Food Drive?  Not only is it a good deed you could do together as a couple, right after the holidays is a time in which the food drives are in most need of donations.  Often times there is a substantial amount of donations flowing in right before Christmas (More is always welcome!), however those donations drop off drastically after the season of giving ends.  Help make someone’s year not just their holiday by donating a selection of canned goods after the Christmas season
  • Learn how to shop with your husband-to-be! For newlywed couples, the weekly task of grocery shopping is often one that is accompanied with a serious difference of opinion, bickering,  a few dented canned goods but also comprises and lots of laughs.  Challenge your husband- to-be to a “Shop Off” for Hamilton Food Share.  Grab the list of Hamilton Food Share’s Most Needed Items to make you own shopping list (which items and how much of each item you are going to get) and head to your local grocer.  Either work together to complete the list or each of you grab a cart and compete to see who can complete the list and make it to the check out first! Once Food is purchased you can drop it off at Hamilton Food Share or at one of their drive sites
  • Just do it already!  I promise, it’ll feel good! I encourage you and your hubby-to-be to round up your bridesmaids, groomsmen, moms, dads, friends, neighbours and challenge each other to contribute 10 canned goods each (ranges in price from $5-$10 per person) to your own Bride’s for Banks Food Drive. It’s a way to de-stress and focus on something other than the wedding for one moment, while still do something constructive with your loved ones.  Bottom line: whether you are getting married, in the wedding party, attending a wedding, heck even if you aren’t getting married at all, donate a couple of canned goods to your local Food Bank.  It will make you feel warm and fuzzy, but more importantly it is a simple way to brighten someone else’s day

Drop off your canned goods at the 41st Annual Hamilton-Halton Spring Wedding Show 2010 January 9 & 10, 2010, Hamilton Convention Centre 11am-5pm both days.  All food donations are donated to Hamilton Food Share.  We hope to raise 6,000 canned goods for Hamilton Food Share! Even if you can’t attend the show, we still welcome donations!
