When asked “What is the hottest colour combination of flowers for Fall/winter 2011?” Susan from Edna Miller Flowers gave this great advice:
A: Grey has been a trend this year, especially slate grey. It is a great neutral and works with lots of colours. Recently I paired it with soft pink peonies and lisianthus for a romantic June wedding. Last weekend, table arrangements of white orchids and curly willow in glass cube vases had a modern twist and looked stunning on slate grey cloths. As we head into September, one of my brides has chosen charcoal grey bridesmaids dresses with hot pink roses in the bouquets. Eucalyptus is a perfect foliage for slate colours since it has a grey tone and adds texture for fall weddings. Mauves and lavenders combined with grey give a muted antique look, perfect for a late October or November wedding. Rich purple and indigo have also been popular colour choices this year, flower match ups have been in white, apple green and purple.
Q: For Brides on a budget, what is the flower(s) that will give a brides bouquet “more bang for her buck”?
A flower that delivers great show for the money is the spider mum. It comes in white, mauve and a wonderful chartreuse.
The spider mum has become a popular choice because of it’s feathery texture. It is a bold flower and has great longevity.
