“Always a bridesmaid, but never a bride?” Well you’re in luck because the 2011 wedding collections are filled with beautiful, stylish bridesmaids dresses to make you feel fabulous on The Wedding Day! Listed below are some of the hottest bridesmaid’s trends of 2011 to suit all different body types and wedding styles.
The Mix & Match: The easiest way to ensure that all your ladies in waiting are looking and feeling their best is to adopt the mix and match strategy when choosing your bridesmaid dresses. While hints of this idea have shown up over that last couple of seasons, it seems to be a huge trend in 2011. Many brides-to-be have been choosing their wedding colours and fabric, and then allowing their bridesmaids to choose what style best suits their individual body types (Halter, a-line, empire, strapess etc). This allows the most important ladies in your life to feel comfortable and relaxed on your day. Let’s face it, every girl wants to look and feel their best when getting their picture taken and having to stand up in front of dozens of people they don’t know. Even though it’s your day; be a good girlfriend, help them to look their best and have a little bit of shopping fun while doing it! Another hot trend is some colour-loving brides are simply telling their bridesmaids to choose dresses within a certain colour palette. Therefore, each girl not only gets to choose which style looks best on her, but also which colour best suits her complexion. As a brides, no matter which one of the above choices you give to your bridesmaids, your wedding pictures are bound to turn out fabulous; full of vibrant colour, cool textures and smiling faces…because every feels their best!
The One Shoulder: The “One Shoulder Trend” in street wear has carried over to the wedding industry as well. The One Shouldered gown works well for both short cocktail bridesmaids’ dresses and long, goddess inspired gowns. The best aspect about the one-shoulder bridesmaid dress is it’s a simple way to add dramatic sophistication to a dress without showing too much skin. The one-shouldered dress works well for pear shaped figures because it draws the eye upwards, towards a beautiful neckline and defined shoulders. For a little extra flare, add some gems or feathers on the shoulder strap for evening or cocktail style weddings.
Pockets & Belts: The “little touches” that are oh-so-popular in the bride’s gown are also popular in the bridesmaid dresses. Two of the most chic bridesmaid’s details are pockets and the belted waist. As a bridesmaid, you have a ton of duties on The Big Day. Pockets are not only a modern update to gowns , but are also very convenient to make sure you are hands-free but still have your lip gloss, breath mints and tissues right at hand! Belts are a great way to define a tiny waist line or give the illusion of a wait line on a more rectangular body shape. Many of the belts or beaded waist sashes that are showing up in Hamilton-Halton and Niagara Region’s Bridal Shoppes are covered in beautiful beading, jewelled embellishments or floral details to add an extra bit of glam to otherwise monochromatic dresses. Such unique details also offer the opportunity for each bridesmaid to have a little individual flare!
Colour: Did you know that the most popular colour for a bridesmaids dress is still black? I guess the LBD is perfect even on a wedding day! If you are more of an adventurous type of bride and love colour, the 2011 is definitely your year to get married. One of this season’s biggest trends is incorporating rich colour and texture into your wedding party attire. I have included the some of the most popular colours this year and what type of wedding they are best suited for.
Blue Hues: A whole range of blues are in style for the spring and summer season. Keep the royals and punchy cobalt hues for more formal or colder weather weddings and your periwinkles and aqua shades are perfect for summer weddings
Golds and Yellows: A butter yellow colour is perfect of a garden or beach side wedding while the gold tones add an extra bling to both formal and informal receptions. All yellow-based shades look fabulous on darker skin tones, however fair skin divas can rock out the gold tones if they are brave!
Purples: A great colour palette for purples this spring is combining your mauves and deep purples in the same dress, A chic palette and is half your bridesmaids wear mauve dresses and the other half wear a deep plum purple. Then add a beaded waist sash in the opposite colour for a punch of colour. Colours look fabulous and you are able to better compliment both fair and darker complexions by using different shades of the same colour.
Remember, as the bride it may be Your Day, but your bridesmaids are the ones that are going to help you make it your dream day. So do yourself a favour and help your ladies look and feel gorgeous!
