Officially September 1st! Can you believe?! Last night I was perusing the web and reminiscing about all the fabulous events of this summer (both personal and within the broader wedding community). The conclusion I came to: Wow what a crazy summer for weddings!
With overall great weather, so many celebrities getting married and in so many different choices of wedding traditions; celeb-watchers were certainly kept entertained with the never-ending parade of unique, over the top wedding extravaganzas. I have listed some of my favourite aspects of celebrity summers weddings 2010 below. Do you agree?
THE GOWN: One of my favourite celebrity wedding gowns of the summer was Chelsea Clinton’s Vera Wang stunner. “The ivory strapless gown featured a silk tulle diagonally draped bodice with a raw edged laser-cut swirling silk organza ball skirt and train”, a spokesperson for the bridal brand told StyleList.
My two favourite things about the dress were the vintage inspired embellished belt that made Clinton’s tiny waist look even smaller, and added a personalized and fashion forward take on an otherwise traditional gown.
My second favourite aspect of this dress was that Chelsea let the dress speak for itself. The new bride left her neckline bare and pulled her hair back in an elegant twist only adorned with a long traditional Vera Wang tulle veil. By keeping her hair, makeup and accessories to a minimum and her lovely skin glowing; Clinton’s allowed her stellar dress and own beauty and happiness to steal the show on her wedding day.
The Great Escape: As much as I love all the glitz and glam (and planning) that goes into a wedding, to me there is also something incredibly romantic about secretly running away to wed in a quite ceremony. I think the wedding of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski was one of this summer’s most romantic great escapes. They quietly flew to Italy to have their intimate (but A-List) ceremony at Villa D’este, Como…I mean Italy, come on! Probably one of the most romantic places on earth! The pictures of Blunt and Krasinski coming back from their wedding showed a couple that appeared happy, content, and as though they were sharing a fabulous secret together. That’s amore!
Most Over-the-Top: The South does have the reputation to “do it big”, so would it be any different when it comes to weddings? Georgia’s Carrie Underwood’s wedding to hockey player Mike Fisher was over the top in every way; from her intricate Monique Lhuillier gown, to the huge, over-the-top bouquets and flower displays, the rings, the hair, the honeymoon, the guest list….the list of opulence and overdoses of pink and white could go on and on when talking about Underwood’s Southern Belle Affair. While that much of well, everything, may not be every grownup bride’s cup of tea; Underwood’s wedding is the embodiment of every little girl’s beginning dream of what their wedding day would be.
