Planning a Wedding? How to Get the Most out of the Niagara Spring Wedding Show!

10 Jan

If you an engaged couple, thinking about getting engaged or are a family member of a couple getting married, you know just how busy and stressful planning a wedding can be on top of jobs, school, etc. However, this should also be a happy and exciting time for both the couple getting married and all of their loved ones. In order to keep the planning period as stress free as possible, the 15th Annual Niagara Spring Wedding Show is a fabulous resource for brides and grooms-to-be because it allows them to not only see, but to hear, hold, touch, taste or smell the products and services they will be purchasing for their wedding day. For instance, you will have an opportunity to sample cakes and other delicious foods for your wedding day and view dozens of beautiful wedding gowns at the daily fashion shows. In addition, a newly engaged couple will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with over 130 of the wedding professionals they may hire to work their wedding in one neutral and convenient location. This gives the brides and grooms-to-be the opportunity to see which companies best fit in with their wedding style and personalities. No matter what stage of wedding planning a couple is in; before the ring lands on the finger, 18 months away or weeks away, the wedding show is the quickest and more cost efficient way to see the St. Catharines and Niagara Regions’ top wedding professionals and services in one place. Listed below are some suggestions for newly engaged couples and their families and friends to get the biggest benefit out of attending a large wedding show.

Come Prepared: First and foremost, set up an email through yahoo, gmail, hotmail etc., that is only for your wedding planning needs. This way if you choose to give out your contact information, you know where the information is being sent and how wedding professionals are sending it. Be sure to also print out your contact information on pre-made mailing labels to save time and tons of writing when filling out ballots. Lastly, bring a camera or use your camera phone to capture images of great ideas you may have (tip. make sure you take a few pictures of you and your entourage at the show! It’s a fun part of your wedding planning experience and makes for great scrapbooking)!

Come with a Vision, but keep an open mind: You may not even have a date set, or you may know everything you want down to the colour of the groom’s socks! Both types of brides (and all those in between) are welcome at the wedding show. Before you arrive at the wedding show, the best thing you can do is know where you stand. For instance, if you are there to gather information, make contacts and start getting ideas, go in with an open mind, chat with exhibitors but let them know that you are just looking. That way you are keeping lines of communication open, but you have not committed to anything you are not ready for yet. If you have your wedding day vision and date ready to go, the best way to approach a wedding show is to have some sort of idea what your overall budget is and what type of budget you have for each area of your wedding. This will not only help you stay on track, but it will also provide you with information to make sure that your vision and budget are one and the same. Don’t be discouraged if they seem vastly different at first; the Wedding Exhibitors in St. Catharines and Niagara Regions offer a plethora of creative services in various price ranges. Be prepared to communicate your idea and be open to suggestions. If you are almost finished your wedding planning, make a list of what products or services you are still in need of before you visit the wedding show in order to stay as organized as possible. It is not recommended that you visit wedding professionals that offer services you already have, as it may cause buyer’s remorse or puts unnecessary doubt in your mind.

Plan Your Visit Around the Fashion Shows: Niagara Spring Wedding Show boasts two daily fashion shows filled with the hottest bridal gown trends. The fashion shows offer great inspiration for chooing your perfect wedding dress for you and your body type because you are able to see the gowns in motion on the runway on many different body types. If you already have your dream dress, check out the bridesmaid gowns and tux choices live on stage. Fashion Show Times are 1:30 & 3:30 Daily Bring Your Necessary Supplies: You want to be as comfortable as possible when attending a wedding show so that your attention is on planning your dream wedding instead of focusing on your personal comfort.

Here is a list of Handy Wedding Show Survival Tips

• Wear comfy shoes

• Leave extra sweaters and coats in the car

• Bring a sturdy bag like a grocery store reusable bag to gather information

• Bring your mom, bridesmaids, friends or groom in order to bounce ideas off and to get a second opinion

• Carry a floorplan and exhibitor list with you, like The Official Show Programme you will receive at the front door. It gets overwhelming seeing so many different types of wedding professionals and it is easier to circle or star some of your favourites on the list to follow up with later See you at the 15th Annual Niagara Spring Wedding Show at the Newly renovated Holiday Inn & Suites Parkway Conference Centre (formerly known as The Quality Parkway Hotel) 325 Ontario St. Catharines For more information, visitwww.TopWeddingShows.com

TopWeddingShows.com Wedding Pro Interview with Jeffery Bridal by Merike

8 Dec

Merike from Jeffery Bridal by Merike on Upper James in Hamilton took the time to chat with us about the upcoming 2012 bridal gown trends as well as providing new brides-to-be with some helpful tips to have the best experience when choosing their ideal wedding gown.

Q:What are your favourite bridal gown trends for 2012?

A: The coming year will bring illusion necklines, where the see-through layering might cover shoulders, chest, back and arms. The tip to this trend is that all the “covers” can be made removable and added to any existing strapless gown depending how creative the seamstress want to be or how much changes the gown designers are offering. Another is “COLOR” blush, silver, hint of green!

Q:What is the best way to choose a figure flattering and pretty bridesmaid dress, when all of your bridesmaids come in different shapes and sizes?

A: The best way to choose the most flattering bridesmaid dress is to stick to the flattering silhouette your bridesmaids most often wear, be it A-line, short ,long, fitted or flowy. it is becoming more popular to combine several different styles for one bridalparty, but using same color and fabric and lenght. this way all the girls will look pretty and happy.  Tip of the trade : let the bridal consultant show you  how to match different styles so the bridal party still look uniform while wearing the dresses. Also be open to suggestions from the consultant, many times she may have exellent ideas to make your  girls look fabulous.

Q:3) What are the hottest colour combos for the 2012 season?

A: I see more “happy” colors coming in such as Coral and White. Coral is flattering for every skin tone and is very spring and can be combined with several other contrasting colors as navy, black and green.

Q: What are the top 3 questions you recommend a bride should ask the bridal salon so she has the best experience possible?

A:  for best service brides should ask for a)personalized appointment b) flexibility for changes c) timing for ordering

Q: How far in advance of their wedding should a bride typically purchase and order their wedding gown?

A: general order process time from the day a bride starts looking for dresses until to the actual wear date is ideally 6 month. It all depends of course on the bridal boutique procedures and supplier terms, as to some designers deliver very quick and some may need up to 8 months or more. As to the entire planning of the wedding …its never too early to decide on your dress

Q: What are your favourite accessories for the upcoming year?

A: Favorite accessory would be beaded belts. This is new trend and they are just pretty. however it is kind of an investment piece or in this matter even heirloom item to pass it along to future brides in the family.

Q: For brides and bridesmaids on a budget, what tips or advice can you offer them?

A: Brides on budget can always score an incredible deal by purchasing sample gown. it does not have to be one time madness sale since  most stores are happy to move their merchandise, so ask and you’ll receive. Try to avoid online bargains as they oftentimes are cheap replicas of designer dresses and almost never measure up to the original quality and fit.

Q: What are the top 3 things a bride should bring to a wedding gown appointment to try on dresses?

A: Brides who come for shopping for a wedding gowns should always bring a a) quality bra,( either convertible or strapless)..the gowns just do look way better with correct support. b) Shoes about the hight of the supposed wedding shoes…again few inches of the dress makes or breaks the look. c) Hair…please try to have the hair done somewhat close to the supposed look for your wedding day…this again will help you to look as pretty while trying the dresses as it will be on your ‘Big Day”, another tip ….come rested and in the good spririts…it is a work-out to try on dresses and much easier to decide on the purchase when you mind is set to do so.

Q:In your opinion, what is the most universally flattering cut of a gown?

A: Universally flattering silhouette is modest A-line. Not too wide and too skimpy.

Q:What are the best colours and cuts for MOB and MOG?

A: Colors for moms usually complement the entire bridal party, However there are two guidelines to keep in mind about color is a) blending colors or b) contrasting colors. Again let the bridal consultant help you with this and show how the color play may turn out.

Q: What colour of bridesmaid dresses do you wish more brides would choose?
A: Color is a personal prefrence matter to begin with. Concerning weddings it is normally set by the season and/or color theme the couple chooses for their wedding. However there are four colors that are always a winner: celadon green, navy blue, coral and aubergine, regardless of trends or seasons. These seem to be safe and flattering for every skintone of the person.

Jeffery Bridal by Merike will be in booth number 145 at the 43rd Annual Hamilton-Halton Spring Wedding Show on January 7 & 8, 2012 at The Hamilton Convention Centre, Hamilton

TopWeddingShows.com Interview with Nozie Weddings and Events

2 Dec

Company Name
Nozie Weddings & Events
“Your Event….Our Passion…” (www.nozieweddings.com)
Q:  Favourite Aspect of Decorating?
A: I love working with non-traditional centerpieces like feathers, unique items like pieces from your home, ie. clay pots, that can always help guest with a conversation piece.
Q:  Biggest wedding trend/theme of 2012 when it comes to decor?
A: Vintage glamour, woodland rustic, winter wonderland, garden and beach themes

Q: There are so many DIY brides today. What is your favourite project for a DIY bride and what areas of wedding planning would you caution brides about when “going it alone”?
A: Making your own wedding day Jewelery, they are many sites and magazines of beautiful DIY jewelery with instructions. e.g.(http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/06/11/diy-project3-pearl-necklace/) and my advice to brides is to be careful when it comes to spending money on their wedding. I think they should try not to spend money where they don’t really need to but to splurge on items that make an impact or more important to them. like if you want your centerpieces to stand out, spend more money on them and less on your table linen because the focal point will be centerpieces and probably few people will notice the linen.
Q:  Your favourite decor trend of 2012?
A: My favourite trend is mixing of table shapes and sizes. (rounds and rectangles). These trends give the reception tables a more interesting look and a less “coordinated” feel.

Q:  One of your favourite places (venues, outside etc) to conduct a wedding ceremony?
A: I love outdoor ceremony venues overlooking lakes like in Liuna Gardens and Rustic old look venues with a view like in Old Ancaster Mills and Cambridge Mills. Those are on my most favourites.

Q: Top 3 favourite colour palettes of 2012?
A: latte, Purple (eggplant, lilac), and black & white

TopWeddingShows.com: Bridesmaid Tips from Mirella’s Ladies Boutique

Mirellas' in Hamilton-Halton & Niagara Wedding Shows

Mirellas' in Hamilton-Halton & Niagara Wedding Shows

Mirella from Mirella’s Ladies Boutique sat down with the team at TopWeddingShows.com to chat about some tips and trends for bridesmaids and mother of the bride and groom trends for 2012.  Enjoy!

Q: What is the best way to choose a figure flattering and pretty bridesmaid dress, when all of your bridesmaids come in different shapes and sizes?

A: It is best to choose a style that is flattering to your body type. Often the bride chooses one dress style for all the bridesmaids and it will not suit some. With great collections like Dessy.com you can choose one color, one fabric, but different dress designs that will suit the individual. This is a great trend the bridesmaids will appreciate most because not only does it look great to have everyone in a unique dress, all the girls will be happy.

Q: What are the hottest colour combos for the 2012 season?

A: The hottest  color combos for 2012 are classic black and white . Check out this black and whit number from Dressy.com http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/d401/

The LBD is even perfect for a bridesmaid!

Q: What are the best colours and cuts for MOB and MOG?

A: Typically the MoB compliments her daughters gown, so it is best she chooses Spring shades like tangerine, pink blossom or subtle shades of mocha. The MOG often chooses shades of teal or butercup yellows – a lovely new color is orchid which is stunning in pictures with the handsome groom.

Q: What colour of bridesmaid dresses do you wish more brides would choose?

A: I find the most flattering color on many skin types is jade green.  It looks great in any styles dress and especially attractive in the Spring season when the grass is so lush and the flowers are blooming. Jade green has often been overlooked, yet it is making a strong comeback for Spring 2012.

Top 5 Wedding Colour Palettes of 2012

15 Nov

Did you know that the most popular colour for bridesmaid’s dresses is black?  I guess the LBD is still the failsafe, even for the wedding party! Despite this fact, the 2012 wedding season promises to be filled with bold and ornate colours and colour combos for the entire wedding party. While there are just too many new combos to list, I have included my top 5 favourites below! I would love to hear what colour combos you have chosen for your wedding. Please feel free to share!

1)      Gold and Teal: the perfect modern winter colour palette! Add some peacock feathers and a little glitz for a high glamour winter wonderland wedding or a dramatic and fresh spring cocktail wedding. 2)      Nudes and Blush:I’m actually going to be a bridesmaid in a July 2012 wedding and this is the chosen colour palette. I am so excited because this colour palette offers such a diverse array of options (you can create an au natural or organic look or have a sophisticated and high class just by changing the type of fabric you use). No matter what type of wedding you are looking for, the blush colour palette adds immediate romance and whimsy to your wedding day. 2012 Top Wedding Makeup Trends

10 Nov

Some brides LOVE the expression “all eyes will be on the bride”, while others squirm at the thought and immediately consider eloping. Regardless of your reaction, the saying certainly holds true! Listed below are some tips to make sure you are putting your best face forward on your wedding day!

1)      Pink Lips: while we still encourage all brides to avoid the prink frosted lip circa 1985, the vibrant pink lipstick in tones of peach, cotton candy, rose and fuchsia are back in a big way.  And why won’t they be? Shades of pink are universally flattering on all skin tones a no lipstick makes you feel as girly and feminine than a bright beautiful pink hue.  The other great aspect with 2012 pink lips is while they make a statement, they still pair nicely with a subtle smoky eye or dramatic eye liner.  Tip:  If you are you are going to rock a pink lip, be sure to whiten your teeth! Some shades of pink enhance yellow tones in your teeth!

2)      Au Natural: Enhance your natural beauty by using cream blushes to bring a happy, vibrant glow to your cheeks.  Use a highlighter on your brow bone and cheek bones and cream eye shadow in natural, earthy tones to complete the look.  This is one of the favourite looks for beach, garden or intimate ceremonies.  The added bonus: you will look radiant and timeless in your wedding photos for years to come!

3)      Smoky Eye: The smoky eye trend continues in the 2012, however this season’s take is more subtle. Stick to a natural, matte colour palette and be sure to blend all the different shades into a smooth gradient of colour. Finish off the look with some great water proof mascara and/or add in some fake lashes on the out corners of your eyes for really dramatic look!

4)      Vintage Glam: Break out the crimson red lips and dramatic tick eye liner to bring some Hollywood glamour to your wedding. This look is perfect for winter, formal, vintage or whimsical themed weddings. To complete this epic look, don a birdcage veil or antique drop earrings and cherry red nails!

5)      Colour! Whether it be through a dramatic lip, jeweled tone eyeliner or feathered eye lashes (yes, feathered eyelashes!) 2012 is all about colour. Don’t feel that you have to limit colour simply to your attire.  Use colour to your advantage and play up your beautiful eye colour or accentuate your favourite feature!

TopWeddingShow Presents: MAK Studios Wedding Photography Tips

26 Sep

MAK Studios Wedding Trends in 2011

We absolutely love our job! Whats not to like? rWe have the best clients and are honoured to have the the pleasure of capturing and preserving a bride and grooms most romantic event of their lives. We are a mother and daughter photography team and we shoot fabulous weddings for fantastic people. Check out some of the trends we have noticed for the 2011 season…

Vintage glamour-If you have been anywhere near media in the last few months, the wedding of the year definitely belongs to Will and Kate. From Kate’s beautiful Chantilly lace bodice to the sprig of myrtle directly passed down from Queen Victorias very own bouquet. Vintage glamour and Hollywood drama is IN! As the fashion world trends this way, so does the bridal world. From the detail shots to the posing, our business has definitely been mirroring the runway and creating beautifully styled Fashion inspired weddings.

First look – Wedding photography has definitely moved away from the traditional to a more relaxed romantic photojournalism with a touch of fashion. Brides are no longer looking for the way things were done in the past and are deciding to blaze their own trail. Remember when superstition dictated that it was bad luck for the groom to see the bride on their wedding day until the ceremony? Not the case any more. For some couples they are opting for the more contemporary “First Look”. This is a great opportunity for the photographer. The first look takes place just before the ceremony in a private location. The purpose is to allow the couple a time where they can drink in the magic and romanticism of how they arrived at this beautiful moment and to dispel nerves often heightened by not seeing each other. This way, they can share the time alone as possibly the only private time they will share in that day.

Eco/green weddings – Maybe its due to the recession or possibly our heightened awareness of the world we live in, but brides are definitely trending towards reduce-reuse-recycle. Green weddings are in! Right down to reusing wedding gowns and renting flowers. As photographers we are seeing the incorporation of family owned heirlooms and the desire to create new heirlooms for generations to come!

Same day slideshow – Well, maybe not such a new trend but it is definitely something that our couples still ask for. We are living in a time of social media with instant result. The same day slide show gives the bride and groom the opportunity to see their guests’ reactions to their memories from the day. It is always a crowd pleaser and our way as photographers for getting great feedback for upcoming trends.

Remember that ultimately it is your special day, and it does not belong to anyone else. Follow your heart and you will have no regrets. We could go on and on with our ever changing industry. If you would like to discuss any more trends, please feel free to contact us at info@makstudioimages.com
